John 8:38-40

³⁸ I declare what I’ve seen in my^[a] Father’s presence, and you’re doing what you’ve heard from your father.”

³⁹ They replied to him, “Our father is Abraham!”

Jesus told them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would be doing what Abraham did.^{[b] 40} But now you’re trying to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham wouldn’t have done that.
